Jinchuan Group's product lineup is changing from copper-nickel alloy pipes to hand-tearable nickel strip, nickel salts, ternary precursors, and high-purity electrodeposited nickel, as the nonferrous metals giant moves from selling resources to high-end products and materials.
At Jinchuan Group Precision Copper Products Co's workshops, pipes, rods, bars, and wires roll off automated lines. About 40 percent of the group's copper is now deep-processed, and these products, along with production services, account for more than half of its output value.
Copper-nickel alloy pipes for ships and offshore engineering fill a domestic gap, while 4N5-grade high-purity oxygen-free copper serves medical, superconducting, and sputtering target uses.
At Jinchuan Group Nickel Alloy Co, a nickel strip just 0.05 millimeters thick, made through vacuum melting and precision rolling, can be torn by hand while retaining strength and ductility, setting a new industry standard.
Jinchuan has built a full chain covering mining, smelting, nickel-cobalt salts, ternary precursors, cathode materials, and battery recycling. Its Nickel Smelter produces electrodeposited nickel with purity above 99.96 percent for superalloys and aerospace.
Jinchuan, which holds over 1,900 national patents, spent 2.65 billion yuan ($395.79 million) on R&D during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25), up 37.5 percent annually.
