Kinsenda Copper Co.,Ltd has made strides in fulfilling its social responsibility commitments and improving local infrastructure in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Through strategic investments and enhanced community engagement, Kinsenda is setting a benchmark for sustainable practices among Chinese enterprises operating abroad.
As part of its Five-Year Plan (2023-27) for social responsibility, Kinsenda has allocated approximately $5.77 million towards community development projects. This includes $1.12 million for building schools and providing educational supplies and equipment, $2.85 million for infrastructure improvements such as road leveling, drainage construction, and street lighting, and $1.8 million for agricultural projects like building warehouses and poultry facilities.
Infrastructure in the DRC faces challenges due to limited electricity coverage and the alternating dry and rainy seasons, which complicate road and public facility maintenance. Kinsenda leverages its expertise in equipment and construction to address these issues while continuing its production operations.
The company has prioritized addressing water and electricity needs, constructing a water supply system and tower to provide stable water sources to the community. Since the project's inception, Kinsenda has invested about $2.92 million in community electricity supply.
This access to electricity has not only illuminated homes but also spurred the growth of small businesses, boosting the local night economy and driving community economic development.
