Jinchuan Group Co., Ltd., headquartered in Jinchang, Gansu Province, was established in 1959. It is a state-controlled conglomerate under the People’s Government of Gansu Province, specializing in mining, mineral processing, smelting, chemical production, and advanced processing. The Group primarily produces nickel, copper, cobalt, gold, silver, platinum group metals, advanced non-ferrous materials, and chemical products. These products are widely applied across modern industries and sectors of the national economy, including construction, machinery, petrochemicals, new energy, battery manufacturing, and biomedicine.

During the 1960s, the trailblazers of Jinchuan struggled through adversity to build China’s first nickel, cobalt, and platinum group metals production line, bringing to an end the country’s historical shortage of these resources. Following the reform and opening-up period, a nationwide scientific and technological endeavor was launched to ensure the comprehensive utilization of Jinchuan’s resources. Jinchuan was then listed as one of China’s three major bases for the comprehensive utilization of mineral resources, marking the beginning of its transformation into a technology-driven enterprise.

Entering the 21st century, Jinchuan has leveraged both domestic and international markets and resources to achieve rapid growth in comprehensive strength. Since 2018, the Group has fully applied the new development philosophy, advancing efforts to establish a globally competitive, world-class enterprise. It has accelerated high-quality development and entered a new chapter in its pursuit of excellence. As of now, the Group ranks third globally for nickel production, fifth for cobalt production, first in Asia for platinum group metals production, and fourth in China for copper production. In 2024, Jinchuan ranked 300th on the Fortune Global 500 list and 78th among the China Top 500 Enterprises.

Jinchuan Group engages in the development of non-ferrous metal resources and the promotion of industrial, technological, and supply chain collaboration across 20 provinces and cities in China and over 30 countries worldwide. Its six major business sectors are: Jinchuan Nickel and Cobalt, Jinchuan Copper and Precious Metals, Jinchuan Science and Technology, Jinchuan New Materials, Jinchuan New Energy, and Jinchuan Scientific and Technological Innovation. The Group has established a comprehensive industrial chain that spans resource development, metallurgy, new materials, new energy, and chemical production.

The Group boasts two national-level innovation platforms, the National Key Laboratory for the Development and Comprehensive Utilization of Nickel-Cobalt Associated Resources and the National Engineering and Technology Research Center for Nickel-Cobalt New Materials. It also established Gansu Province’s first Academician and Expert Workstation within an enterprise.

Notable achievements include:

- In 1989, the Comprehensive Utilization of Jinchuan Resources project won the Supreme Prize in the National Scientific and Technological Progress Awards.

- In 2012, the Key Technologies and Applications for the Efficient Utilization of Complex Nickel-Cobalt Resources project received First Prize in the National Scientific and Technological Progress Awards.

- In 2024, the Group received two Second Prizes in the National Scientific and Technological Progress Awards for the Next-Generation Green and Efficient Refining Technology and Applications for Rare and Precious Metals, and Innovative Technology and Applications for Multi-Dimensional Precision Control in Efficient Flotation and Separation of Metal Oxide Ores.

The development of Jinchuan Group has received strong support and guidance from national leaders. During his visit to Jinchuan Group on February 5, 2013, President Xi Jinping stated, “The implementation of an innovation-driven development strategy is imperative for accelerating economic transformation, strengthening overall national capabilities, and increasing global competitiveness. It is essential to focus on technological innovation as the core and the cultivation of innovative talent as the key, aiming at the global frontiers of science and technology to continuously enhance enterprises’ capabilities for independent innovation and competitiveness.”

As Jinchuan embarks on a new era, it is imperative to implement the key directives President Xi Jinping issued during his inspection. Centered on the mission of safeguarding national strategic resources such as nickel, cobalt, and rare and precious metals, Jinchuan focuses on the exploration of key minerals and the strategic deployment of new industrialization. It scientifically advances technological and industrial innovation, fosters new quality productive forces, and continuously strengthens its core functions and competitiveness.

By 2030, Jinchuan aims to surpass 1 trillion yuan in annual revenue, and significantly improve its profitability, innovative ability, product service and value creation. The Group will also seek to fully transform its modern corporate governance system, achieve a high level of asset securitization, possess strong international operating capabilities, and stand as a world-class enterprise that competes globally.
