Jinchang city thrives with Jinchuan’s copper industry

Updated : January 25, 2024

Known as the "capital of nickel", Jinchang city in Gansu province also boasts abundant copper resources. Jinchuan Group, a leading State-owned enterprise, has vigorously developed and upgraded its copper industry from basic industrial raw materials to high-precision and innovative copper products.

The research and production of high-precision "special-shaped copper strips" have enabled Jinchuan Group's copper industry to achieve a massive transformation.

"The reason it's called 'special-shaped copper strip' is because its surface is not flat, but has a raised T-shape," explained Liu Dong, manager of the semiconductor packaging materials division of Jinchuan Niedu Industrial Co., Ltd. He further mentioned that these "special-shaped copper strips" are now widely used in 5G communication equipment, new energy vehicles, and consumer electronics.

After 3 years of research and production, the company's mature extrusion rolling processes have been developed, seeing the variety of "special-shaped copper strips" reach more than 40 types.

In addition to the exiting extrusion rolling processes, the division has also successfully developed integrated forging core production equipment and pioneered the technology used in integrated forging and rolling processes in China. The "special-shaped copper strips," which originally required 12 processes for production, can now be formed in a single step on the integrated forging production line.

The technical indicators, including production efficiency and dimensional accuracy, have reached the domestically advanced level.

Liu Dong stated that as for now, the company's production capacity for high-end forged "special-shaped copper strips" has reached 1,200 tons per year, occupying 50% of the domestic market share, gradually establishing the "Jinchuan brand" in the semiconductor industry.
