In November 2022, the application of the "national key laboratory for the development and comprehensive utilization of nickel-cobalt associated resources" of Jinchuan Group was approved for construction by the Ministry of Science and Technology, marking the successful completion of the restructuring of the original "national key laboratory for the comprehensive utilization of nickel-cobalt resources". It has also entered a new national scientific and technological innovation platform and become the first national key laboratory in Gansu province.
Chen Dexin, vice governor of the People's Government of Gansu province, stated that Jinchuan Group should focus on the major strategic needs of advanced manufacturing in China, and carry out forward-looking, pioneering, and exploratory research, in a bid to improve the strategic guarantee capacity of nickel, cobalt, and platinum group metal resources. It is also expected to increase the international competitiveness of the industrial chain, and pioneer the concurrent advancement of industrial development and scientific innovation in Gansu province.
During the meeting, Ruan Ying, Party secretary of the CPC Jinchuan Group committee and chairman of Jinchuan Group, expressed his gratitude to the leaders, academicians, and experts attending the meeting for their guidance and assistance in the laboratory restructuring process.
Ruan said that Jinchuan Group will build the laboratory into a strategic force leading the domestic development of nickel-cobalt technology, and facilitate scientific collaboration in related fields.
The meeting discussed the Construction and Operation Plan of the National Key Laboratory for the Development and Comprehensive Utilization of Nickel-Cobalt Co-associated Resources, the Open Project Guidelines of the Laboratory, and the Laboratory's 2023 Annual Work Report. It was held in a combination of on and offline formats, with the participation of leaders of Gansu province and relevant personnel of the laboratory.
