The joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative has provided new opportunities for the development of countries worldwide. Jinchuan Group, as China's largest and world-leading nickel-cobalt production base and platinum group metal refining center, has been actively participating in the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative. Collaborating with the University of Cape Town in South Africa, Jinchuan Group has developed an intelligent grinding system for Jinchuan's ore beneficiation plant.
In mid-September, Jinchuan’s beneficiation plant in Jinchang, Gansu, welcomed two scholars from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. Although it was their first visiting, the research achievements of their collaboration with the Chinese team have already been applied.
The intelligent grinding system jointly developed by Jinchuan and the University of Cape Town can monitor the processing volume of grinding, the grinding machine, feeding ore and water in real time, tackling the problem of low efficiency and high labor-cost that had been faced by Jinchuan’s beneficiation plant for a long time.
According to Gao Zedong, director of the beneficiation workshop in Jinchuan Group, since the operation of the system, the overall operational efficiency has significantly improved. Labor productivity has increased by 3.2 times, the equipment failure rate has decreased by 13%, and the operating cost has been reduced by 2.2%.
Over the past decade, a series of high-tech innovations such as photovoltaic energy storage, smart cities, mobile payments, and new energy vehicles have been implemented in an increasing number of countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative. More people are enjoying the convenience brought by technological innovation. Along this path of innovation, a community with shared development concepts, interconnected scientific and technological facilities, integrated innovation chains, and smooth personnel exchanges is gradually becoming a reality.
