This summer, the most severe drought in 30 years swept through the western part of Wuwei city and the eastern part of Zhangye city, Gansu province, with Yongchang county in the middle bearing the brunt. As a leading enterprise, Jinchuan Group actively coordinated with local governments, made every effort to alleviate difficulties, and participated in drought resistance work to safeguard people's livelihoods.
Affected agricultural products all purchased by Jinchuan Group
As a key investment attraction enterprise in Jinchang, the Jinchang Tianci Agriculture Technology Company planned to cultivate 8,500 mu of corn this year. However, as summer approached, the drought became increasingly severe, and the issue of farmers' harvests became the most concerning problem for everyone.
Ruan Ying, the newly appointed Party secretary of the CPC Jinchuan Group committee and chairman of Jinchuan Group, immediately issued instructions to spare no effort in supporting local farmers from harvest failure.
Under this circumstance, the Jujia Ecological Agriculture Company, subsidiary of Jinchuan Group, contacted local government departments to conduct field surveys in affected areas, and urgently deployed large harvesters and freight trucks. In just over ten days, they completed the purchase of all the affected corn, covering a total of 9,000 mu (approximately 1,500 acres) from three towns.
At least 12 million yuan (about $1.65 million) has been spent by the Jujia Ecological Agriculture Company to support the harvest.
Overcoming the challenge of water shortage and ensuring water supply
On July 27, Xilanyuan Community in Yongchang county ran out of the water. More than 7,500 people faced a lack of daily use water.
The next day, the emergency rescue team of the Security Department of Jinchuan Group drove the largest capacity water tank truck to Xilanyuan Community, quickly joining the water supply and drought resistance work.
At the same time, Jinchuan Group formulated emergency plans for water supply guarantee.
Jinchuan Group Copper Co., Ltd. strengthened water control for greening, reducing the number of watering times; increased the reuse of acid wastewater, condensate water, and recycled water, saving over 800 tons of water per day.
The concentrator laid out pipelines for recycled water, installed filtration devices, and implemented the upgrade project of water quality and grade differentiation system, saving 3.8 million tons of water annually.
After implementing a series of measures, Jinchuan Group is able to save 5,835 tons of fresh water every day.
