In June 1958, a piece of green malachite was found in the area. Upon testing, the malachite contained 0.9% nickel and 16.5% copper, which made it an exciting discovery for the nation. Since then, to meet the needs of the construction of the national nickel industrial base, Jinchang city was established, and Jinchuan Group also started its development, with explorers and builders nationwide coming here to open the new era of the "capital of nickel".
The special historical background determines that Jinchang city and Jinchuan Group are interdependent and should move forward together.
With the strong support from the provincial and municipal governments, Jinchuan Group has continuously strengthened its own construction. After more than 60 years of development, it has now established production capacity of 200,000 tons of nickel, 1.1 million tons of copper, 17,000 tons of cobalt, 10 tons of platinum group metals, 30 tons of gold, 600 tons of silver, 200 tons of selenium, and 6 million tons of chemical products. The output of nickel and cobalt ranks fourth in the world; the output of copper and platinum group metals ranks fourth and first, respectively, in China.
In 2022, Jinchuan Group ranked 100th and 39th respectively among the top 500 Chinese enterprises and top 500 Chinese manufacturing enterprises. In 2023, the company ranks 289th on the Fortune Global 500, and 85th on 2023 Fortune China 500, making outstanding contributions to the economic and social development of Jinchang city.
